Chipoka Health Center serves over 35,000 households in Traditional Authority Ndindi, Salima District. For years, its signpost had faded, losing its visibility and function. This seemingly small issue had major consequences—ambulances struggled to locate the facility, delaying emergency response times, while visitors, health officials, and stakeholders were left asking for directions.

A Community-Led Restoration Effort

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Luso Langa Community Foundation partnered with Friends of Chipoka, a group of community members from Chipoka living in the diaspora. Rooted in the belief that local communities should take charge of their development, the two groups pooled resources to restore the signpost.

Bringing the Vision to Life

The initiative followed a structured approach:

· Engagement with Local Leadership: Luso Langa consulted the Area Development Committee, which endorsed the project.

· Collaboration with Health Authorities: Chipoka Health Center officials approved the restoration.

· Community Contributions: Cash donations were collected, and painters were hired.

· Restoration Completed: High-quality materials were used to repaint the signpost, ensuring durability and visibility.

The Power of Local Giving

This project is a testament to what communities can achieve when they unite for a common cause. Thanks to the combined efforts of local and diaspora community members, Chipoka Health Center’s signpost is once again serving its purpose—guiding ambulances, visitors, and health officials efficiently.

When communities give back, they build stronger, more resilient futures.

Together, we make a difference!
