Luso Langa launched a poultry farming project in 2018, which was later expanded in 2019 and is currently in operation. The project aims to maximize economic opportunities for young people and women in Justin Village, Chipoka, Salima. This initiative is not just about poultry farming, it’s about creating lasting impact by equipping youth with skills, generating sustainable income, and supporting education in the community.
Through this multifaceted approach, the organization:
· Expanded its poultry farm facilities to accommodate Black Austrop and Kroiler chickens.
· Introducing Solar-Powered Incubation to improve efficiency and revenue generation.
· Training youths and women in Feed Production how to produce chicken feed using locally available materials.
Project Success & Growth
Since its expansion, the “Poultry Farm Project” has already made significant strides:
· Skills Development: 52 youth, community members, and Mother Group members trained in poultry farm management, feed production, and business skills.
· Increased Sales & Scholarships: Since November 2021, chicken sales have increased, profits have been invested in funding bursaries—up from 9 in 2020.
· Creating Employment: multiple chicken and eggs selling points were established in the community, offering jobs to youth in poultry and egg sales.
· Funding Education: 35% of the profits have been invested in the “Luso Education Scholarship” fund, supporting 26 secondary school students, six of which made it into the public universities.
