Luso Langa is leading the fight against child marriages in Chipoka, Traditional Authority Ndindi in Salima, through a four-year initiative committed to protecting young girls and empowering communities. With a vision to reduce child marriages by 30% by January 2028, this initiative addresses one of the most pressing issues in Chipoka community, ranked fourth highest in child marriage prevalence in Salima district.

Shifting Attitudes and NormsOne of the core objectives of this initiative is to change attitudes, beliefs, and practices that perpetuate child marriages and limit girls’ education through:

· Educating community members on child rights, child protection, and the importance of girls’ education.

· Strengthening Community Capacity through awareness campaigns

Empowering Leaders for Change

Luso Langa is also investing in building the capacity of community leaders through targeted training on child rights and child protection to strengthen enforcement of bylaws which discourage and prevent child marriages.

Economic Empowerment for Sustainable Impact

Luso Langa is implementing economic empowerment initiatives targeting child marriage survivors, girls at risk, caregivers, and community members. These initiatives include:

· Pass-on Project by providing goats to caregivers and child marriage survivors

· Vocational Training to equip caregivers with skills to improve their economic stability.

Expected Impact

· Increased school retention rates which will help delay marriages.

· Reduced financial pressure on families which will in turn reduce the economic incentive for child marriages.

· A strengthened leadership and informed community members ready to fight against child marriages.
